Margaret DeVon Baros, fondly known as Debra, leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.

Debra was not only a visionary but a catalyst for change in the educational landscape of Cuero. As the founder of the Cuero ISD Education Foundation, she laid the foundation for a brighter future for students and educators alike. Her mission was clear: to ensure that every student had access to a curriculum enriched by local resources, empowering them to become responsible and successful citizens of the world.

Throughout her tenure, Debra's unwavering commitment to this vision was evident in her tireless efforts to support educational programs, foster partnerships with the community, and motivate students to exceed expectations. Her impact extended far beyond the walls of the classroom, touching the lives of countless individuals and leaving an indelible mark on the community she loved.

Debra's journey began in Cuero, where she was born to Edwin Alfred Gus Hilbrich and Irene Otelia Knippa Hilbrich. From a young age, she demonstrated a remarkable spirit and determination, achieving academic success and earning accolades for her achievements. After marrying David Wayne Baros, she embarked on a journey of lifelong learning, graduating from Texas A&M University and obtaining a master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction.

As an educator, Debra's passion for teaching knew no bounds. From initiating programs like Reading Is Fundamental to writing successful grants for school funding, she was a beacon of positivity and encouragement for all those she encountered. Her dedication to her students and her community earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers alike.

Beyond her work in education, Debra was a multifaceted individual with a zest for life. Whether it was through her poetry, her entrepreneurial ventures, or her love for travel, she approached every endeavor with enthusiasm and creativity. Her ability to bring people together through her lively personality and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

As we mourn the loss of Debra, we also celebrate the profound impact she had on our lives and the legacy she leaves behind. In her honor, the Cuero ISD Education Foundation will establish a scholarship to continue her legacy of empowering students to pursue their dreams. Through this scholarship, we will ensure that Debra's spirit lives on, inspiring future generations to reach for the stars and make a difference in the world.

Today, we say goodbye to a dear friend, a dedicated educator, and a beloved member of our community. Though she may no longer be with us, her memory will forever remain in our hearts, and her influence will continue to shape the lives of those she touched. Debra DeVon Hilbrich Baros may have left this world, but her legacy of service, compassion, and dedication will live on for years to come.
