Cherie Kay Reese’s Journey
Cherie Kay Reese’s journey began in Corpus Christi, Texas, on May 3, 1935. Her family relocated to Cuero in 1944, where fate introduced her to Raymond R. Reese, her beloved husband whom she married in 1956. A proud alumna of Cuero High School, Cherie Kay pursued her passion for education at The University of Texas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1957. Her career as a classroom teacher in the Galveston public school system was interwoven with her husband's medical education journey at UTMB.
Commitment to Community and Church
In 1962, the Reeses returned to Cuero, where Dr. Raymond Reese began his practice at Bohman Clinic. Cherie Kay devoted herself to raising their children, Rebecca and Ray, while also contributing significantly to Cuero’s First Baptist Church. Her roles there spanned from Sunday School teacher to founder of the graded children’s choir program, reflecting her deep-rooted commitment to nurturing young minds both in and out of the classroom.
Advocacy for Education
Beyond her church commitments, Cherie Kay served as PTA President and played a pivotal role in securing the bond issue that led to the construction of John C. French and Hunt Elementary schools in the late 1960s. Her advocacy for education extended to her family, inspiring her daughter, Rebecca, to pursue a distinguished 32-year career in education as both a high school teacher and college professor. Her granddaughter, Emily, continues this educational legacy as a classroom teacher and Math Department Chair in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
A Lasting Legacy
Mrs. Reese’s belief in the transformative power of education was unwavering. She firmly believed that education not only enriches individuals but also strengthens the fabric of society. Her legacy of faith, service, and dedication to learning continues to inspire generations.
